What’s New
The following release notes detail the enhancements we have included in this release.
FORT-178 / FORT-180 Implement Export Option for Core Reports
With this release, you can now export core reports to Excel or PDF format. This feature is available for both analytic and non-analytic reports. To use this feature, after choosing desired filters and generating your report, select the Export button in the upper right corner of the screen and then select the preferred export format.
Please note that exported reports will not include graphs and charts.
FORT-186 Extend Display Time for Warnings and Error Messages
With this release, warnings and error messages will display for ten seconds instead of the previous five seconds. This ensures that users have sufficient time to read the messages in their entirety and, if needed, take screenshots. Users can dismiss these messages at any time by tapping or clicking them.
FORT-201 Duplicate Customer Warning When Adding New Customer
With this release, when creating new customers, the POS will automatically check key values entered and will warn if there is an existing customer with matching data. This includes in-line validation of the following:
- First and last name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Custom fields
If the system finds existing records matching any of these values, it will display a warning to that effect. This validation process is meant only to provide a warning to users and does not prevent them from creating new customers with existing values.
FORT-202 Implement ‘Sales Order Custom Fields’ Reporting Group
With this release, we have added a Sales OrderCustom Fields option to the Groups tab in Reporting so customers can easily view this information and better understand sales order data.
FORT-203 Create Return Reasons
For better return tracking, we have enhanced the return process with the option to require a reason when performing a return. To support this functionality, we have added a Return section to the Reason Codes page. From this page, you can add reason codes according to your needs and preferences.
As well as entering codes, you must also select Yes for the Require reason when returning item POS setting. Once enabled, when processing a return, the POS will prompt you to choose a return reason from the list of available codes.
For convenience, you can also access and manage return codes by selecting Manage reasons from the settings list.
FORT-208 Add ‘Location’ Filter to Drawer Report
With this release, you can now filter the data contained in the Drawer Report by Location.
This allows you to view only specific transaction types and for a single cash drawer. You can find this report under Reporting | Core Reports | Drawer Reports.
HRTL-5581 Display DOB Banner for Age-Restricted Sales
To facilitate the sale of age-restricted items, you can now configure your POS to display a DOB (date of birth) banner on designated workstations. When the corresponding Show DOB age banner is enabled for a station, this banner will display in the upper right corner of the app and will show ‘born on or before’ birthdates for defined age requirements. In this example, we see DOB banners for two age requirements, 18 and 21 years old. You can enable this under Settings | Locations | Stations | Station Settings.
Please note: Enabling this banner will override existing custom branding.
HRTL-5619 Display Breadcrumbs Across Retail Screens
For more consistency and ease of navigation, we have added breadcrumbs to several additional screens in Heartland Retail. With this option, users can easily navigate back to main pages after viewing an individual item or record, such as returning to the Invoices page after viewing an individual invoice as pictured in the example below.
This new feature is available in the following screens:

The following release notes detail the updates we have included in this release.
HRTL-1642 Fixed Spontaneous QBO Expiration / Disconnection
In previous versions, users sometimes encountered issues with their QBO (QuickBooks Online) integration either expiring or disconnecting without reason. With this release, the QBO integration remains active and connected as expected.
HRTL-3978 Fixed QBO ‘Financial Class’ Import Issue
In previous versions, users were sometimes unable to import changes to Financial Class. This occurred when there was white space before or after the Financial Class name. With this release, to avoid such failures, the POS automatically strips any white space from before/after the name.
HRTL-4315 Fixed On-Hand Quantity Issue on Transfer Pick List
In previous versions, the POS sometimes showed incorrect values for on-hand quantities when creating a transfer pick list. With this release, the POS shows correct on-hand values as expected.
HRTL-5530 Fixed ‘Enable All’ Error on Roles Page
In previous versions, when users selected the Enable All button on the Roles page, the POS sometimes displayed an error and failed to update permissions. With this release, the POS handles such requests as expected and without error.
HRTL-5537 Fixed Packing Slip Printing Issue
In previous versions, some users were unable to print packing slips. This occurred when the selected destination printer name contained a slash. With this release, the system prints packing lists as expected.
HRTL-5711 Fixed Inconsistent/Non-Intuitive Return Ticket Behavior
In previous versions, when creating a new ticket, if you switched from Sale to Return and then scanned an item, the ticket automatically changed back to Sale and added the scanned item as a sale. You would then have to switch back to Return mode and select Switch to Return for the scanned item. With this release, if you switch to Return and scan an item, it will be reflected as a returned item on the ticket as expected.
HRTL-5808 Prevent Updates to Sales Invoice Lines on Ineligible Invoices
In previous versions, users were sometimes able to delete lines from completed invoices. This occurred when the invoice was open in more than one tab and, after completing it in one tab, the user navigated to another tab where the invoice was still open and then deleted one of the lines. In these instances, although inventory and reporting were not affected, the sales invoice itself would be missing a line. With this release, the POS will not allow users to delete or otherwise update lines on completed invoices. Instead, such invoices will be read-only.
HRTL-5833 Fixed BigCommerce Gift Card Syncing Issue
In previous versions, if an order was paid on the BigCommerce side using a gift card, it would sometimes fail to sync with Retail. With this release, these orders sync as expected.
HRTL-5882 Fixed Merge Issue for Tagged Items
In previous versions, users sometimes encountered invalid request errors when attempting to merge items with tags, after which the system failed to merge the items. With this release, the system merges these items as expected and without error.
HRTL-5919 Fixed Missing Promotion Name Issue
In previous versions, if you created a sales order using a promotion, the POS did not display the promotion name on the sales order screen. With this release, the POS displays the promotion name as expected.
HRTL-5945 Fixed ‘Sell on Shopify’ Custom Field Reverting to ‘No’
In previous versions, if a merchant added a new image to Grids, the Sell on Shopify custom field in that grid would revert back to No, requiring the merchant to change it back to Yes each time. With this release, the setting keeps its previously set value as expected.
HRTL-6047 Fixed Reason Code List Limiting to Only First Ten Entries
In previous versions, when the POS displayed reason codes, it would only display the first ten. Any additional reason codes were hidden from view with no way to access them. With this release, if there are more than ten reason codes, the POS displays the first ten on the screen along with controls to move forward and back between pages.
HRTL-6088 Fixed Search Issue When Adding Items to PO
In previous versions, when adding items to a purchase order, if you attempted to find items with Prompt for price at time of sale and Calculate margin dynamically based on percentage enabled, the POS would sometimes display an error and would not add such items.
With this release, the POS adds such items as expected and without error.
HRTL-6249 Temporarily Disable Option to Disconnect from Shopify
To prevent merchants from inadvertently losing their connection to the Shopify integration, after which they are unable to reconnect, we have temporarily disabled the disconnect option by deactivating the Disconnect button on the Shopify integration page. Until we are able to reactivate this option, should you need to disconnect from Shopify, please contact support for assistance.
