Overview
This article describes how to configure a Genius location to use the Pay App. This app enables a location to use the following payment terminals:
- Verifone T650C
- Verifone T650P

Restrictions and Requirements
- Must run IOS Genius 8.70 or higher.
- Must run Genius Pay App version 2.16d or higher.
- Genius Pay App identifies eligible cards based on App ID only.
- The location must have legal agreements signed and returned to Genius RM.
Connecting the Verifone T650C or T650P to the Location’s Network
Before configuring Genius to use the Pay App, you should connect your payment devices to the location’s network and record each device’s IP address. You should connect each device to the same network that the POS is connected to.
Connecting the Verifone T650C or T650P via Wi-Fi
The Verifone T650P does not feature an Ethernet port, so you can only connect it to the location’s network by using Wi-Fi.
Connecting to the Network with Wi-Fi
- Turn the device on.
- In the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- In the Apps screen, tap Settings.
- Tap Network & Internet.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Select your local network.
- Enter the network’s password, then tap Connect.
- Wait until the device connects, then tap the Wi-Fi network’s icon.
The app will display the network settings. - Record the IP address.
- Tap the Home button (at the bottom of the screen).
- Tap Payments Application.
You will need the IP address to define the device’s payment terminal record in the Genius Admin Console.
Setting a Static IP Address via Wi-Fi
- In the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- In the Apps screen, tap Settings.
- Tap Network and Internet.
- Tap Advanced Options.
- Set the Wi-Fi setting to Static.
The app will display additional controls in the IP Settings area, enabling you to enter dedicated values for these settings:
- IP Address: the address of the device on the network.
- Gateway ID: the router’s default gateway address.
- Network Prefix Length: Classified by the number of IP addresses assigned on the network or subnet. The default value is 24.
- DNS 1: The default setting is “8.8.8.8”.
- DNS 2: The default setting is “8.8.4.4”.
After entering the necessary network settings, tap Save.
Connecting the Verifone T650C via Ethernet
The Verifone T650C features an Ethernet port, enabling you to connect the device to the location’s network via Ethernet. Ethernet connection is NOT supported on the T650P device.
Connecting to the Network with Ethernet
- Verify that the Ethernet cable is plugged into the device.
The Ethernet port is located on the back of the device. - Push the middle bottom button and then pull down to remove the cover.
- Plug the cable into the port labeled ETH.
- Verify that the Ethernet cable is plugged into the same network as the POS.
Viewing the IP Address
- In the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- In the Apps screen, tap Diagnostics.
- Tap Network information.
The IP address (labeled Device IP) is displayed in this screen.
Setting a Static IP Address via Ethernet
- In the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- In the Apps screen, tap Settings.
- Tap Network and Internet.
- Tap Advanced Options.
- Set the Ethernet setting to Static.
The app will display additional controls in the IP Settings area, enabling you to enter dedicated values for these settings:

Configuring Pay App in Genius
To configure a location to use the Pay App, you must perform the following tasks:
- Configure the location to use the Pay App as its EMV solution.
- Define settings for each payment terminal that will use the Pay App.
Setting Pay App as the Location’s EMV Solution
- Into the Admin Console’s Main Menu, click Account, then click the appropriate account.
- In the Main Menu, click Location Setup, then click Payment Gateway.
- In the Payment Gateway screen, click the In-Store Settings tab.
- In the EMV Solution list, select Pay App.
When you select Pay App, the program hides the Gateway list, since a location cannot use the Pay App with a Monetary or BridgePay gateway. Also, when you select Pay App, the program automatically enables the Portico Direct feature. - In the Transaction Method list, select Sale/Adjust.
- Click the Genius In-Store Settings tab.
- Enter the following necessary device settings:
Site ID
License ID
Device ID
Username
Password - If you want to allow servers to enter credit card numbers manually, select the Allow Manual Entry for Credit Cards check box.
If you enable this feature, the POS (in the Payment screen) will display the Card button with ellipses (...). If you press and hold the Card button, the app will open a panel prompting you to enter the credit card’s number, expiration date, CVV, and ZIP/Postal code. - To save your settings, click Save.
- Click Publish to publish the new printer to the POS.
After enabling the location to use the Portico Direct feature, the location will also be able to process tips, voids, and refund transaction with the Genius Pay App.
Defining Payment Terminals
- In the Main Menu, click Location Setup, then click Payment Terminals.
- In the Payment Terminals screen, click New.
- In the Name box, enter a descriptive unique name for the device that this record represents.
- In the IP Address box, enter the IP address of the device that this record represents.
- Click Save.
- Click Publish to publish the new printer to the POS.
Testing Each Terminal’s Connection to the POS
Once the payment terminals are configured, you can test their connections in the POS.
- Log into the POS.
- Tap the Options button.
- In the Options menu, tap Manager.
- In the Manager menu, tap Payment Terminals.
- In the Payment Terminals screen, tap a tile representing one of the payment terminals you defined in the earlier section.
The POS will display a panel describing the connection status between the POS and the selected device. - To test the current connection, tap Test EMV Connection in the Card Reader panel.
Pay App at the POS
Once you have the Pay App and the devices set up, you can use them to perform payment transactions for credit cards.
Performing a Payment Transaction
- In the POS, create a new ticket, then add an item.
- Tap Checkout, then tap Card.
The app displays the Please Insert/Tap/Swipe card prompt. - Swipe, insert, or tap the card.
If the site uses surcharges, the device may display a notification prompt. - If the device displays the surcharge prompt, tap the Check button.
The device displays the Credit Sale screen, listing the transaction's total amount, base amount, and surcharge amount. - In the Credit Sale screen, tap Continue To Process.
The Pay App will process the transaction and (if approved) send the verification response to the POS. - If you dipped the credit card, remove the card from the device when prompted to do so.
The device will process the payment and send the response to the POS, which will then print the receipt with subtotals for tax clearly labeled.
