Connecting Your Star Printer
USB Connection
Connect your Star TSP143IV printer to an available USB port on your workstation and plug into a power source. Once connected and powered on, the POS will automatically recognize the printer and will display it in the Receipt Printer dropdown of the Point of Sale Settings screen. To ensure that merchants can easily identify and select the correct device, the POS designates printers connected via USB as such in the dropdown, as shown below:
LAN Connection
Connect your Star TSP143IV printer to an available port on your router and plug into a power source. Verify that your POS workstation is connected to the same network as the router.
For Mac and Windows operating systems, please enable Telnet as described in the Enabling Telnet Protocol section at the end of this guide and then resume the steps in this section.
Once connected and powered on, the POS will automatically recognize the printer and will display it in the Receipt Printer dropdown of the Point of Sale Settings screen. To ensure that merchants can easily identify and select the correct device, the POS designates printers connected via LAN with their current IP address in the dropdown, as shown here:
Using Your Star Printer in the POS
Once the printer is selected from the Point of Sale Settings screen, you are ready to start printing receipts. Upon completing a transaction, if you select Print Receipt, the POS will send a receipt to the printer. Likewise, if you select Gift Receipt, the POS will send a gift receipt to the printer. Receipts will be formatted as defined in Settings > Receipts > Templates.
Important Notes
- Should the POS lose communication with the printer, it will display a red toast message to that effect.
- If a user attempts to print to the printer when it is offline, a red toast message will display with instructions to check their connection.
- After a disconnection, the POS will automatically recognize the printer once it comes available again.
- Printing works in both online and offline mode.
