What’s New?
The following release notes detail the updates we have included in this release.
GNX-298 NextGen POS Now Supports Direct Connections to Weight Scales
You can now attach a weight scale directly to a NextGen POS with either USB or Bluetooth connections. When you connect a weight scale to a NextGen device, the POS will establish a connection. In the POS Rooms screen, tap the Options button. In the Options menu, tap Settings, then tap Peripherals. If you attach a weight scale to the NextGen device with a USB connection, the POS will display a tile representing the scale in the Peripherals screen. By default, the POS displays the scale as selected, which means it is active. If you tap and deselect the scale’s tile, the POS will disable the scale.
GNX-847 Moby Firmware Upgrade to Version 14.04.0001
We have updated the Moby firmware for Heartland and CFD devices to (Production) Version v14.04.0001. The earlier version 14.03 has expired.
GNX-1008 NextGen Supports ‘Show Modifier Name’ Function
The NextGen POS now supports the Show Modifier Name feature in the modifier settings. In the Admin Console’s Main Menu, click Menu, then click Modifiers. In the Modifiers screen, select an existing modifier. In the modifier’s Settings panel, you can use the Show Modifier Name list to set the POS to display or print a modifier’s name and the names of its ingredients in the POS ticket screen, the kitchen display system (KDS), and printed kitchen slips.
If you select Disabled, the POS will not display this modifier’s name. If you select Ticket Screen, the POS will display the modifier’s name (and its ingredients) in the Ticket screen, along with the other items on the ticket. If you select Kitchen, the POS will display the modifier’s name (and its ingredients) in the KDS display and printed kitchen slips. If you select Both, the POS will display the modifier’s name (and its ingredients) in the POS ticket screen, the KDS display, and printed kitchen slips.
GNX-1009 When Activating Gift Cards, POS Prompts Customers to Swipe Card
In locations using the Heartland Gift service, the NextGen POS now alerts customers to swipe their gift cards during activation. When activating a gift card in previous versions, after tapping the Activate button, the POS displayed no prompt to alert the customer when to swipe the card. Consequently, servers and customers were often uncertain when to swipe the card. In such cases, if you tapped Activate again, the POS may have generated an error (“Unable to Activate Gift card: The parameter ‘sva’ is required”). To rectify this, we have modified the POS to display a prompt on the CFD when it is ready to read the card (“Customer needs to insert card”).
GNX-1012 NextGen Supports “Open Amount” Refund Payment Option
We have added the Open Amount payment option to the POS Refunds screen. The Open Amount feature allows you to enter a refund amount that applies to a whole ticket, enabling servers to apply a refund that reduces a ticket’s full total to a lower amount, or to apply a refund to a ticket that does not yet include any menu items.
In the POS, you can perform a refund by accessing a closed ticket and tapping Refund. After prompting you to confirm the refund action and select (or enter) a reason for the refund, the POS displays a screen with the total refund amount and a list of payment options. To this screen, we have added the Open Amount payment option.
If you tap Open Amount, the POS displays the Open Amount screen.
The Open Amount screen features a keypad, enabling you to enter an amount for the refund. After entering an amount, tap Apply to add the refund to the ticket. After you tap Apply, the POS will access the Checkout screen, displaying the ticket with a new Refund item and its subtotals and totals adjusted appropriately.
On Server Checkout Reports, the POS will include such refunds in the “TICKET CHARGES” section. In the Daily Summary Report, the Admin Console lists “open amount” refunds in the Service Charges/Fees section. If your location uses the Roll Up Duplicates feature, the POS will not roll up a ticket’s “open amount” refunds.
GNX-1013 You Can Edit Customer Information in Closed Tickets
In the NextGen POS, you can now edit the customer information in a closed ticket. In previous versions, if you opened a ticket and added a customer’s information, the POS did not allow you to edit the customer’s information after you closed the ticket. The iOS version of the POS allows you to access and edit a customer’s information (in the Customer Info screen) after their ticket is closed, so we have modified the NextGen POS to also allow you to edit a customer’s information after the ticket is closed.
GNX-1085 Optional Color Fill Display for Items and Ingredients
You can now modify how the POS displays item and ingredient buttons in its Order screens. In the Admin Console, we have added the Use Color Fill for Items and Ingredients check box to the location settings. In the Admin Console’s Main Menu, click Location Setup, then click Settings. In the Location Settings screen, click the App Settings tab. In the App Settings tab, we have added the Use Color Fill for Items and Ingredients check box.
If you select this check box, the POS will display menu item and ingredient with full color fills. (This is the style used in previous versions of the iOS POS.)
If you clear the Use Color Fill for Items and Ingredients check box, the POS will display menu item and ingredient with white buttons featuring colored highlighted borders. (This is the style used in previous versions of the NextGen and Mobile 2.0 POS apps.)
The Use Color Fill for Items and Ingredients check box applies to the iOS, NextGen, and Mobile 2.0 apps, enabling you to display item and ingredient buttons in either style on all devices.
