Overview
This quick reference guide details Plug-&-Play (PnP) printing to Bixolon thermal label printers from Heartland Retail’s back office.
Windows, iOS and Android ELO systems can seamlessly identify Bixolon printers connected via USB or LAN without requiring manual driver installations. Supported Bixolon models include:
- SLP-DXG220G
- SLP-DXG220EG
This PnP functionality extends to the following modals:
- Inventory items and transfers
- Purchasing orders and receipts
Please note that this feature is for use only in the scenarios outlined above. The Bixolon printer will not be visible in POS settings.

Printer Connection
USB Connection
To get started, simply connect your Bixolon printer to an available USB port on your workstation. The POS will automatically detect the printer and include it in the Select Destination dropdown menu of the Print Barcode Labels screen, thereby allowing you to print labels from the back office in a quick and convenient manner.
To ensure that merchants can easily identify and select the correct Bixolon device when printing barcode labels, the POS designates printers connected via USB as such in the dropdown; for example, ‘Bixolon (usb)’.
LAN Connection
To get started, simply connect your Bixolon printer to an available port on your router and verify that your POS workstation is connected to the same network. The POS will automatically detect the printer and include it in the Select Destination dropdown menu of the Print Barcode Labels screen, thereby allowing you to print labels from the back office in a quick and convenient manner.
To ensure that merchants can easily identify and select the correct Bixolon device when printing barcode labels, the POS designates printers connected via LAN with their current IP address in the dropdown; for example, ‘Bixolon 192.168.0.111’.
Supported Label Sizes
- 2.25" x 1.25" thermal label roll
- 2.2” x 0.5” thermal label roll
- 2" x 1" thermal label roll
- 1.5" x 1" thermal label roll
Helpful Tips
When you change the label paper in your label printer, we recommend that you:
- Reboot the ELO so it can refresh the connection to the printer.
- Power cycle the printer to ensure that it recognizes the new label paper size.
- Press the Feed/Cancel button on the top of the printer before printing to ensure that printed labels are consistently formatted and properly aligned.
- Even though the POS does not display the Bixolon device in the POS Settings modal, we recommend that you Reload All Devices. Doing so helps the system locate the Bixolon so it can be displayed as a destination in the Print Barcode Labels screen.
- If the POS on your iOS system fails to find or recognize your Bixolon printer, try rebooting the iPad. This often helps the iPad recognize newly added connections.
