What’s New
The following release notes detail the enhancements we have included in this release.
HRTL-7219 Introduce Ticket-Level Discount Functionality
We have recently introduced the ability to apply ticket level discounts based on the pre-tax amount of a ticket. Previously, the only way to apply discounts was per line item. This functionality offers two options, either a dollar amount or a percentage off, and works for both promotions and coupons. To learn more about this, please refer to our Ticket Level Discount Guide.
HRTL-10930 Introduce ‘Referenced Returns’ Functionality
Along with the previously available blind return option, Heartland Retail offers merchants the ability to process returns linked to completed sales transactions. This process ensures that, for any given transaction, customers can return only those items purchased on the original ‘referenced’ sale, thereby protecting merchants from loss as well as eliminating the need for manual calculation. When referenced returns are enforced, the POS will restrict returns in such a way that links them to a previous sale ticket (‘parent ticket’) and will use the original pricing, discount, and tax amounts for each returned item.
With this new functionality, we introduce the Restrict returns to parent transaction setting in the POS Settings screen. This setting allows merchants to restrict the ways that a return can be initiated within the system.
- When toggled to Yes, the system requires that all returns are linked to a parent transaction, thereby disallowing blind returns.
- When toggled to No, the system allows users to perform blind returns as before: initiate a new ticket, switch to Return via the dropdown menu, add items to be returned, and enter negative quantities equal to the quantity being returned.
Merchants can perform referenced returns regardless of whether the Restrict returns to parent transaction setting is toggled on or off.
For more information on this functionality, please refer to our Referenced Returns Guide.
HRTL-11447/11449 Add Support for 1.5” X 1.0” Labels on Bixolon
This release expands the barcode label options for merchants using the Bixolon label printer to include 1.5” x 1.0” labels. The printed information will be horizontally and vertically centered in the same manner as on the 2.25" x 1.25" labels.
This option is available on all available Heartland Retail platforms.
HRTL-11540 Display Merchant Logo on CFD When Idle
Android users with an ELO customer-facing display will now see their logo displayed on the CFD when it is inactive. The logo will display centered vertically and horizontally on the screen. It will go away when a transaction is initiated (i.e., when an item is scanned) or is in progress, and will reappear when the transaction has been completed.
Please note the size recommendations for logos:
- Maximum recommended logo size is 928x300
- Minimum recommended logo size is 150x150
To upload a logo, go to Settings -> Company, and select the Upload Company Logo button on the right side of the page.
HRTL-11910 Implement New ‘HRC Update’ Banner Behavior and Format
With this release, we have updated the appearance and behavior of the ‘HRC Update’ notification banner. These include
- The banner now scrolls with the page instead of staying static at the top.
- We have added spacing between the bottom of the banner and the ticket content below it to ensure that there is no overlap.
- The banner will automatically adjust its size to fit changes in the browser window.
- We have removed the header from the banner to reduce its overall height.
- We have updated the the banner’s message to: ‘A new version of HRC is available. To avoid potential issues, please update HRC as soon as possible.’
- The link is now embedded in a button on the banner so that, when selected, it opens the update page.
HRTL-12298 Implement New ‘Heartland Reader Disconnected’ Notification Format
With this release, for consistency, the error message that appears when the Heartland Reader is disconnected is now formatted in the same manner as other messages in the POS.
HRTL-12368 Improve Clarity in Heartland Reader Error Messages
To improve the user experience and to ensure accurate and efficient processing, we have clarified the content of error messages from the Heartland Reader when a transaction fails. The new messages include details of the nature of the problem so users can determine the best course of action. For example, if a transaction is declined, the resulting message will include the reason for the decline, such as an issue with the contactless communication, along with the suggested next step which, in this case, would be to insert the card for chip-reading.
HRTL-12471 Improve Phone Verification Prompt on CFD
As with HRTL-12368 above, to better support merchants and their customers when processing credit cards, we have added more detail to the customer-facing display (CFD) prompt when phone verification is needed. Where previously, it would ultimately result in a vague message reading, ‘See phone,’ it will now display a prompt to the customer reading, ‘See phone for verification.’ The customer can then view their phone and take appropriate action to either allow or deny the transaction.
HRTL-12474 Improve Refresh Prompt Behavior on Android
This release includes changes that ensure that, should a user attempt to refresh the page at various points during a transaction, such as while a card transaction is in progress, the POS will display the appropriate prompt, and that the user will not experience any loss of data or functionality after the refresh.
HRTL-12486 Implement New ‘Ticket Completed’ Banner Format
With this release, for consistency, the ‘Ticket completed’ banner is now formatted in a manner consistent with other banners in the app, as pictured below:
Updates
The following release notes detail the updates we have included in this release.
HRTL-10565 Fixed Inconsistent Messaging and Input Field Labels in ‘Close Drawer’ Flow
In previous versions, if you left a required field blank when performing a Close Drawer, not only did the error message display incorrectly, the input field label turned red. With this release, the error message displays correctly, and the required field behaves as intended, displaying with a red outline with messaging below, and with its label remaining in black.
HRTL-12500 Fixed Filtering Issue with Inventory Count Discrepancy Report
In previous versions, some merchants reported that, after implementing a filter when doing a partial inventory count, the discrepancy report included items that did not match the filter. As well, the report sometimes failed to fully load. With this release, the report generates fully, and filters items correctly as expected.
HRTL-12505 Fixed ‘Enter’ Key Behavior When Creating an Inventory Batch
In previous versions, if you created an inventory count, partial or full, and then attempted to create a batch and, after naming it, hit the enter key to save the batch name, instead of saving, the page would refresh and you would have to start anew. We have corrected this behavior so that hitting enter saves the batch name as expected.
HRTL-12537 Fixed Inventory Modal in Sales Order Fulfillment
In previous versions, if you selected Inventory for an item when fulfilling a sales order, the resulting modal displayed only the item name and did not display any of the item’s inventory information. With this release, the modal displays the inventory details and history as expected.
HRTL-12593 Fixed Spontaneous Ticket Creation in Background
In previous versions, some merchants encountered instances of tickets being spontaneously created in the background, and items being added to those tickets. With this release, this no longer occurs, and the POS behaves as expected with regard to ticket creation.
HRTL-12601 Fixed Discount Issue in Purchase Orders
In previous versions, discounts applied using the line item discount modal were not reflected in the discount amount of purchase orders. However, if you manually updated a line on a PO, such a discount would be reflected in the discount line. We have fixed this issue so that discounts are accurately reflected, regardless of how they are applied, in all purchase orders.
